Despite the delayed blog since the opening of the maternity, i owe it to you to inform you of the completion and opening of Loreng’elup maternity.

Loreng'elup Maternity

The Loreng’elup maternity was supported by Safaricom Foundation, Turkana Basin Institute and Stony Brook University through the Department of Health Sciences. The Loreng’elup community were honored to have Les Baillie commission the maternity.

This opening was graced by the resident community, friends of the community, Safaricom Foundation and Ministry of Health officials led by Dr Epem Esekon who has greatly supported our efforts.

We had speeches where the residents and medical representatives appreciated Safaricom Foundation’s , Turkana Basin Institute and Stony Brook University’s efforts in supporting maternal health. While expressing their gratitude, the residents also urged the Foundation representatives to lobby for the mobile network to be boosted as that was an avenue in which maternal health will be supported by mothers calling for help in case of emergency.

We went on to celebrate the day with dance and some goat eating, which had Les Baillie take part in a cultural practice which shows appreciation by the community.

A wrap up to the eventful day with song and dance.

Turkana Basin Institute is delighted with the partnerships with Safaricom Foundation and Stony Brook University and particularly the Department of Health Sciences in the much needed efforts to support health care in the region.
