The Turkana Basin Institute is pleased to announce that Nigel Leakey will serve as TBI Kenya Chief Executive Officer, effective April 7, 2026.

Nigel is a senior executive and board leader with over 30 years of experience in institutional leadership, organizational management, and governance across complex, multi-stakeholder environments in East Africa. He has held several chief executive and managing director roles overseeing large organizations with diverse workforces, significant assets and strong public/private sector interfaces.
His background includes leading transformation, strengthening operational and financial management, and building inclusive, high-performing teams. He brings deep experience in policy engagement, labor relations, and institutional representation, gained through extensive service on regional and national boards and industry bodies.
Nigel has served on the Boards of the Agricultural Employers Association, the East African Tea Trade Association, and the Kenya Tea Growers Association, contributing to advocacy, trade facilitation, and governance at scale. He holds a BSc (Hons) from the University of Reading and executive training in finance, management, and marketing from SOAS, University of London.
Nigel is recognized for his collaborative leadership style, commitment to mentoring, and focus on institutional strengthening with long-term impact. His interests include flying, travel, water sports and nature.
