Stacks of books donated to the Ileret school. After arriving last week, the day was spent opening boxes of school material donations from a world-renowned American singer who paid a visit to the Illeret camp last year. She donated the materials after seeing the plight of poor status of education in Illeret. Other than the 500 text books opened so far, the donated materials include hundreds of bag packs, footballs, and other school stationery. I can only imagine what lies ahead when we open the boxes tomorrow. Paint bottles? Coloured pencils? I feel like a little girl unwrapping her christmas gifts. I look forward to seeing the joy in the faces of the children than will be receiveing the materials. But we are still on the drawing board on how to deliver them to all the recipient schools. With the schools being so remote and distant from the camp, I once again cross my fingers that it all works out. Tomorrow is another day...

Reading about your work has inspired me to find some way to be involved. I yet
know what my plans are, but there will be a plan. By the way, I believe my
mother, Stony Brook Professor Bertha Murphy is currently working on the same
project. She arrived in Kenya last week and as of her last email, she also was
looking forward to the days ahead. Keep up the good work that you do.

avatar Yes Bertha was with us a few days ago and I am sure she can tell you more about
the place and the people from what she saw. It's great to hear you want to be
involved. We are still trying to set up an online donation scheme, which is
preferable due to the difficulty of transporting materials up here. However in
the meantime, anything you can do to help would be appreciated. Where exactly do
you teach? I am exploring the idea of initiating sister schools in the US.
